The Jury of the “MIRA” World Music Award Competition met in Moscow to select the nominees
The distance qualifying round was held at the Permanent Representative Office of the Krasnoyarsk region under the Government of the Russian Federation on April 24-25. This year the Organizing Committee received 220 applications from Romania, Kyrgyzstan and 38 regions of Russia.

The distinguished jury assessed the applicants. The jury chairman is Sergey Starostin (Moscow), the jury co-chairman is Anatoly Khlopkov (Krasnoyarsk region), the jury members are Albina Degtyaryova (Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Inna Zhelannaya (Moscow), Leonid Yeryomin (Republic of Khakassia), Arthur Marluzhokov (Republic of Khakassia), Lydia Tsaregorodtseva (Moscow), Albert Kuvezin (Republic of Tyva).

The experts have shared their first impressions about the contestants. “In spite of the difficulties due to pandemic the artists continued to advance their creative skills. It is obvious as many contestants have applied for the competition for several times. Nothing can stop the creative power; it inspires and makes us believe in the future. The competition develops
contestants, jury members and spectators intellectually, spiritually, and creatively”, Anatoly Khlopkov says.

“This year we were astonished by dance ensembles and instrumentalists. We were especially stunned by the solo vocalist/instrumentalist performers. The professionally educated
artists and amateurs compete with each other. We see that the people who learn the folk art all by themselves become very deep, interesting and authentic performers”, Sergey Starostin says.

The experts unanimously agree that to assess and compare the performers’ skills is demanding. Most of the folk artists perform very sincerely. It is even more challenging to assess young participants; this year the Organizing Committee has got a lot of entries from them.
“Children probably have more expectations than adults. For some of them participation in the competition can be very meaningful”, Albert Kuvezin says.

When we asked Lydia Tsaregorodtseva what kind of performers become the finalists, she said, “Those who believe in their art; who perform not only for the Jury, but for the audience in general. You always feel that energy. Those who take enjoyment in their performances, you can
see it in every gesture and intonation”.

The on-site elimination round – concert performances of artists, where the laureates and the winners of the Grand Prix of the World of Siberia Festival 2021 will be determined, is scheduled for July 9-11. The list of the nominees selected to compete for the “MIRA” World Music Award will be published on the festival website by the 1st of May. Stay tuned for more news.
